ROYAL GRAND PALACE AND ROYAL TEMPLE

PRASAT PHRA THEP BIDORN (Royal Pantheon)

Prasat Phra Thep Bidorn was constructed by King Rama IV with the intention of housing the Emerald Buddha as he thought the Ubosot were too low. However, once completed the building was too small for royal ceremonies and, accordingly, other relics were installed instead. It houses statues of nine Chakri kings, from the First to the Ninth Reigns.

The lower part of this throne hall is in neo-French Renaissance style surmounted with tiered roofs and spires in traditional Thai style.
